I knew the war birds are supposed to be at the Dubuque airport tonight but I took a chance last night and stopped by the airport to see if by chance there were some early arrivals.  There were 6 or more of them sitting on the tarmac. Two of them had their engines running so I hung around a while to see if they were going to do any formation flying.
When this twin-engine plane took off on the runway adjacent to the observation area I thought I might be in luck. It was a beautiful evening with blue sky and lots of clouds. The temperature was a reasonable 66 degrees it was perfect.
I was pretty happy to see two of the T28s heading for the runway but to my dismay they went all the way over to the far runway that runs North and South. That is really too far away for a decent shot even with my 500 mm lens. So they took off heading North and my hopes for a fly by quickly faded as they continued North until they were out of sight. I was starting to pack up when two more of the planes started up.
They also took off North and did a big circle but simply came back and landed on the same runway. I waited another 20 minutes but it was obvious there would be no more flights this evening. So I did get a couple of shots of the war birds all be they some distance from me.
I have to do training in Cedar Rapids this evening so I won’t have a chance to check out the airport until Friday. Hope you have a great day. Thanks for stopping by and be careful (i.e. watch your step.)
I’m glad you got some good shots already. I’m out of town and will miss it this year ones more 😦
Enjoy your weekend Dave!

Hi Andreas
I sure enjoyed your insect posts. I’m sorry you won’t be able to be at the airport. I suspect it will be very crowded there tomorrow. I may pass on it simply because I already have so many images of them flying. Hope you are doing well and that we can shoot together sometime this year.
Love to go to dinner again with you and Joan. Time goes by so quickly doesn’t it.
Give my best to Joan.
