Happy Monday / Memorial Day. I have enjoyed a very nice 4 day weekend. I had Friday off and intended to spend the day shooting images. The best laid plans however often do go astray so I spent the bulk of the day doing yard work. It was well worth the effort to have that job behind me and not have to worry about it the rest of the holiday.
Friday evening we met Joan and Andreas at CRUST for a wonderful dinner. Lots of conversation about photography, lenses, and wildlife photography. We all enjoyed the lobster ravioli for dinner and it was a very enjoyable evening.
Saturday the weather was pretty much yuk most of the day. Later in the afternoon Jeanne and I went for a photo drive. We saw some interesting things but there just wasn’t any good place to park. Then we came across this big guy. He was magnificent. This image just does not do him justice. To get a better image of him I would have had to go down an incline into the ditch and then try to climb a hill that would have been 8 feet high and then I would have been standing (assuming I would have made it to the top and could still stand) right next to the fence and very close to Mr. Bull Buffalo. If you look at this fence, it doesn’t look like it could withstand his weight were he determined to get on the other side.
Since at the top of the hill I would have been very close to him I wasn’t about to take a chance of him showing me his displeasure and getting to know me up close and personal. 🙂 Also with a bum knee, I wasn’t sure I could actually climb the hill in the first place.
On the way back to town we passed several men riding their bikes wearing tutus. Now the temperature was 48 degrees, it was windy, damp and not a great time to be riding anyway, but in a tutu!? We stopped at Junction 21 Bar and Grill for dinner. I’ve been told the food was really good there.
We quickly learned the riders were part of a campaign against skin cancer, and the ride was a fundraising event, which explains the unorthodox biking outfits. The crowd was loud and happy, the food was okay and the entertainment, well let’s just say that he was entertaining. He would forget the words to some of his songs and just hum the words or make up his own. 🙂
Sunday we had a nice visit from Angie, Josh, and Gabby. Ben was on call so Angie brought the kids over for a visit. We had a lot of fun with both and of course enjoyed Angie’s company. Angie and Josh had lunch with us. Gabby ate before we did. 🙂
So a very nice weekend so far. Weather permitting we hope to go to the Memorial Day Parade later this afternoon. Dubuque always has a nice parade and it will be fun watching Josh with all the fire trucks, sirens, bands, and other parade vehicles. He really enjoyed the Halloween Parade last October so it will be fun photographing him at this parade.
Thanks for stopping by. I hope you have had an enjoyable holiday weekend as well. Enjoy your Memorial Day and be careful.
