Happy Thursday!

I wasn’t happy with my image of the deer I posted last week.  So yesterday I decided to go back where I found the deer and see if I could get some better images.  Please remember you can click on any of the images to reveal a much larger and more detailed image.

This time I stopped about a mile before reaching the area where they were and got my camera and long lens all set up.  Then I drove with the camera in my lap, with the window down and hoping I would see them again.

Sure enough they were in the same vicinity and looking for food.  I drove very slow and when I stopped to take the pictures they started to leave.  Still I was happy with the results.  I won’t bother them again for a while.

Happy Thursday (Blizzard)!

I had lunch with some great Friends yesterday at Thunder Hills and on the way home I decided to take the back roads in hopes of seeing some deer or other wild critters.

I drove past a large heard of deer on my left side but when I slowed down they started moving so I just kept driving until I could get to a place where I could stop and get my long lens set up.   Then I turned around and drove slowly to where I had seen the heard.  There were only two or three left and this one was the only one that was standing in the clear.  The rest were in behind the trees.

I saw a lady taking a big bag of food out to where I first saw the deer and filling up a container for them to eat.  I can’t imagine how hard the Winter is on the deer population.

The good news is I now know where to find the deer and will be better prepared next time.

Happy Monday!

I only have about 10,000 images of Canada Geese many of which I have posted over the last 10 years of writing this blog.  So I wasn’t anxious to add more geese to my inventory.  But after wandering through the country side for two days and finding nothing that inspired me to push the shutter I decided to got to one of my favorite places in Dubuque.

I had to do a fair bit of walking to get to them but found a group of Canada Geese and some Mallard Ducks enjoying the open water and sunshine.

I walked past these geese in their sleeping position.  They paid me no notice other than one raised its head just to make sure I wasn’t going to get too close to the group.

The wind was blowing pretty hard and that made the wind sting my face.  I hadn’t put on a heavy coat and didn’t anticipate being out very long so I was really cold when I got back to the truck.
