Until yesterday I had never been to a “Color Me Run.” I didn’t know what to expect but was interested in photographing some of the experience. This is what I think I know about it. The “color” is a corn starch product that is not permanent and will not hurt the skin or any other part of the body. It also will not permanently stain clothing or any other inanimate objects such as cars.
So there are four stations or areas along the route and each station has one color and one station has all the colors. There may have only been three stations (I’m not clear on that.) The colors are blue, yellow and magenta.
At each station you can also get a drink of water. People then throw the powdery color at you as you run past the station. You get some interesting combinations when it is mixed with water (or sweat) and the colors start to blend with each other. I was only at one station and they were just throwing the yellow power. I was under the impression that it was a mix of water and powder and then that got thrown at the runners. I’m not sure.
Now matter how it was supposed to be done everyone seemed to enjoy it for the most part. There were actually three runs yesterday. A timed 5K run for the serious runners, the color me run, and then a kids color me run. The weather was iffy up to race time.
Once the color run was just about over it started raining and then as you are aware it rained the rest of the day. Too bad because the Maquoketa Chamber had planned so many wonderful events for the community including “Muscle On Main.” The Coronado Car Club was presenting a vintage car show on Main Street complete with music and food. Since we were baby sitting Josh yesterday I left after the race was over and the rain started. I hope they got to have some part of the other events.
That’s it for today. I hope you enjoy your Sunday. Thanks for stopping by and be careful.

The second image is a great shot with character!
