I had an appointment with my audiologist yesterday morning for my 6th month check up. I am tolerating the hearing aids because I need to be able to hear people when they talk with me. As they say in the trade, it is an essential function of my work. But when I finally retire they are going in the trash can. 🙂
Anyway enough about that. When I left the clinic I saw what looked like a “sun dog” around the sun and the closer I looked it appeared to be two rather bright spots (one on either side of the sun) and a faint rainbow around the sun. I thought about stopping to photograph it but with -40 degree wind chills I decided against getting out of the car, getting my camera (which was warm) and trying to take a picture of the phenomenon.
Then it occurred to me that I could use my little point and shoot camera from inside the car and stay toasty while capturing this incredible sight. Yes it may have turned out a little better with a DSLR but no so much better as to make it worth tolerating the numbing cold wind.
So I got the picture and stayed warm, (had my cake and ate it too as it were.)
One more day of this harsh weather and then the forecast calls for a little moderation. Stay alert and warm today.
Thanks for stopping by the blog and be careful.
Smart thinking not to get out of the car, and the picture is fantastic for those of us who didn’t get to see the real thing!

Awesome picture of the sun dogs. I called them that here yesterday and no one seemed to believe me that that was the proper name for this phenomenon of nature! One question though, how did you make a round sun into a diamond? You have amazing photoshop talents my friend. Keep up the great work and stay safe in this bitter cold.
